The Black world of films in New England

Black film festivals in Atlanta, Colorado, New York, and Los Angeles may be the largest in the states but there are plenty of local market film festivals that help get your material in front of audiences.

Summertime is a great time to showcase a film in New England. Big screen theaters at Coolidge Corner Brookline and Kendall Square Cambridge welcome independent screenings. The Museum of Fine Arts is also in on the act.

You’ve got the Roxbury Film Festival in Boston, the Martha’s Vineyard African American film festival, Boston’s Independent Film Festival, and a film preview series running at Emerson College, the Harvard Film Archive and UMASS Boston. Recently, the new Ethelbert Cooper Gallery of African and African American Art in Cambridge has programmed film showings.
